5 Ways to Nurture Yourself this Cancer Season

September 4, 2025

Cancer season is upon us, which means while we may be soaking up the warm rays of the sun, we are also keenly attracted to the healing power of the ocean waves. A water sign, Cancer, teaches us about our very first experience of love – the Cosmic Mother. Cancers are known for their emotional sensitivity, portrayed by the hard exterior shell of the crab which it creates to protect its soft and sensitive insides. Emotional imprints from childhood dictate much of how we see and interact with the world and can define our attachment style and need for safety in relationships. Cancer season connects us to our emotional bodies, where we may need to re-mother ourselves or allow others to provide a warm hug and safe space for us to process arising emotions. This Cancer season try these easy and free ways to connect to the part of you needing a little extra love and nourishment.

🌊 1. Moon Bathing & Water Rituals

Cancer is ruled by the Moon and associated with the element of water. During this season, moon bathing—sitting under the moonlight with intention—can attune your emotional body to lunar rhythms. Pair this with water rituals like a warm bath infused with rose petals, magnesium salts, or essential oils (like jasmine or ylang-ylang) to soothe your nervous system and open your heart.

📖 2. Lay on Mother Earth

Connecting to Mother Gaia by attuning to her vibration, known as the Schumann Resonance, allows the body to move out of the sympathetic and into the parasympathetic nervous system, where we can rest and restore. Lay on the Earth(known as grounding) close your eyes and tune into this support that is available to us at any time.  Allow this life sustaining vibration to nourish you, increasing your melatonin production (amen to great sleep) and improving vagus nerve function.  Our emotional dysregulation often comes from physical imbalances, taking a few moments to sit on the earth and breath can often shift or at least calm down an emotional response.

🕯️ 3. Create a Sacred Nesting Space

Rearrange a cozy corner of your home to reflect softness, safety, and serenity. Add objects that carry meaning: candles, soft fabrics, crystals like moonstone or rose quartz, and photos that evoke loving memories. Cancer craves sanctuary—a cocoon where the soul can retreat. 🌹 4. Make A Homemade Soup

My daughter and I affectionately have nicknamed this a “hug in a mug” and is our go-to dinner when we need grounding, nurturing and a vitamin packed easy meal.  The recipe always changes based on what’s fresh and overflowing from the garden but always includes big chunks of fresh veggies, organic chicken, some pasta, beans and bone broth! If I’m feeling extra fancy, I like to chop an old baguette into cubes and toast with olive and oil and garlic, for a homemade crouton topper. These soups remind me of what any good mother serves her child when they are feeling down or ill! You always finish feeling nurtured, grounded and satisfied!

🎶 5. Sound Healing & Vocal Expression

Cancer’s ruling element, water, responds deeply to vibration. Use solfeggio frequencies (especially 528 Hz for love or 396 Hz for release), or sing to yourself—humming, toning, or chanting. This calms the emotional body and rewires old patterns stored in your cells. Better yet, book your next vibe session, to soothe your busy brain and get back to clear, focused attention. Did you know that regular attunements like this can help create new neural networks in the brain?
